Amateur Radio also known as Ham Radio or Radio Hams for licensed persons who have obtained the correct qualifications to be able to transmit around the world using various transceivers.

JUNE 2011

Obtaining my full license in 1989  I was able to work most countries on all bands by way of my 60 ft Mast with a full size HF Cushcraft beam with 40 Mtrs add on. Above was a 6m beam and a 2m yagi plus dual band 2m/70cm. I was then living in Berrynarbor
Nr. Ilfracombe North Devon

22 years have passed and things in retirement are a little different.

My  wife and I recently moved to a new house with restrictive covenants stopping me  from using any external Antennas. I decided to use my roof space and positioned internally an EZ End fed which is 16.1 mtrs. of wire with a 1-9 unun fed via coax cable.

This is kept in line by the use of 18mm plastic overflow pipe which is cut to varying lengths and then screwed to the timber beams and structure ensuring its off set from any mass structure, this is then drilled and the wire threaded through and around the inside of the roof in an L shape for the total 16.1 mtr run. Finally I used an SG 239 SmartTuner at antenna feed point to the 1-9 unun and from this is 20 mtrs of coax cable down to the shack 9 mtrs below, also a 6mm stranded earth wire is sent to ground for best results. The antenna takes top band 160m 80m 40m 20m 17m 15m 12m 10m  and 6m
I am getting very good reports across Europe on HF. SSB and C.W. I have also had contacts on FM 10m.  I hope for even further communications when conditions pick up or allow.
I am also trying to improve my CW speed which currently is at best only 16wpm

QSL Via e.QSL or QRZ.Com

There are various QSL formats and I use QRZ.com and eQSL.com for my contacts.
To help me with my CW I have installed MRP40 Also I have
Been introduced recently to Echolink. I would welcome any contacts there.
and also through HamSphere, which is a very good program with
many radio hams and SW Listeners.

My Grandfather was the inspiration of my radio activities as he was one of the pioneers in the development of radio and television.
Professor JJ Denton. (see old pictures above) The next paragraph was taken
from the internet.

JJ Denton and television and radio experiments. It was published at the time that JJ Denton was undertaking secret radio research for the Government, but finding out exactly what Government work he was doing and in locating Denton's radio call sign for 1923-4 escapes me. Below is just some information on the internet during 1920s
